BYOD is a strategy to sustainably provide students with one-to-one access to digital education. The school provides the infrastructure and software with on-site and remote access, while students and parents provide a laptop of their choice. Currently students in years 9 upwards are required to bring their own device for school related work and research. We are rolling BYOD out to all 7-12 campus students throughout 2017, with the aim of all students having 1-1 access to ICT in 2018.
This year we have tightened up our recommended device list. If you already have a device or wish to purchase an alternative device, we are happy to still connect it- Although we cannot guarantee the quality of service we can provide.
In 2018 the $30 p.a. fee to connect devices will be included in the 'Materials and Service Charge'; and will not require additional payment. We will have a small selection of loan laptops (details below) which will incur a loan cost.
Further information is available in the BYOD Handbook or email Andrew Batten: [email protected]
As a rule of thumb, we support any Acer or Apple Laptop regardless of source. You may source your device from any supplier you chose, we highly recommend investing in an extended warranty.
Although Laptops are preferred, tablets are a satisfactory alternative (must have an external keyboard). Chromebooks are not supported at EFS 7-12.
We have two online providers, who are able to offer some of our recommended devices. These devices are suited to school usage, have good battery life, and offer onsite warranties- This means the device is serviced at school rather than sending your device to a service centre. Our providers also offer a range of finance options to support families.
Reserve Laptop Loan Scheme
We understand not all families may be able to afford to purchase a device short term. The school has a limited number of loan devices to ensure all students have 1-1 access to ICT in the classroom. Loan devices are also available to students who have a device in for repairs (evidence required). Students who have forgotten or have not charged their device may also borrow a device per day for incidental use. All loan devices must be returned to Tech Support by COB each day- unless otherwise negotiated. The rates are listed below:
$30 per Year for Social Justice/ School Card holders only
$25 per Term (loss/ damage/ repair- proof required)
$10 Per Week (loss/ damage/ repair- proof required)
$4 per Day for incidental usage
If you wish to apply for a loan device for a year, please fill out the application form below or email: [email protected]
